For Mike Mahoney, founder of Honey Skateboards, an increase in demand had created a welcomed, but unexpected problem given today’s bumpy economy.  After following his dream to build finely crafted, classically designed longboard skateboards reminiscent of surfboards of the 1960’s, Mike quickly discovered that demand – especially from baby boomers and folks in their forties – was rapidly outpacing production capabilities and costing the entrepreneur unrealized profits.  His goal: Find a way to slash the number of steps required to create his graphics-free, highly prized retro inlayed “stringer” styled longboards.

He found the solution at booth #4007 during the AWFS Show in Los Vegas where Laguna Tools was displaying its popular Swift CNC Machine.  “As a craftsman, I immediately appreciated its solid one-piece, tubular welded frame construction and attention to detail,” he said.  But, Mike added that none of that mattered if the Swift CNC failed to meet his goal of dramatically cutting costly production steps.  Mike says the robust Swift CNC machine has not only lived up to his expectations, but surpassed them by eliminating five to eight steps (depending on the model) from his company’s existing production processes, allowing him to boost capacity to an impressive 2,000 longboards a year, while cutting other associated costs.  “That’s huge for us, and keeps our growth goals firmly on track, while meeting the demand of people (of all ages) who appreciate craftsmanship, performance, and tons of fun with an emphasis on safety.”
